Next Travel Destination

April 1st, 2009 Greg 2 comments

I have been enduring the daily grind for about two months since my last trip and am ready to start planning my next vacation. Southeast Asia seems to be an interesting and exotic place, so I began researching possible “off the beaten path” destinations. I came upon the little known nation of “Phaic Tăn” which seems to be an affordable yet up and coming eco-tourism destination. They have some interesting cultural idiosyncrancies, as exhibited in their local cuisine:

“During times of celebration such as New Year or the cessation of civil war, the Phaic Tanese love to serve a special duck dish called guoman. The bird is plucked, rolled in spices and slowly roasted over hot coals before being brought to the table and killed.”

Carpooling to Ice Fishing Cabin Trip

January 12th, 2009 Greg 4 comments

I figure the easy way for people to coordinate carpooling up to the Ice Fishing Trip is to have an open discussion, so please discuss here!

Josh- is the van going to be operational by the weekend of the trip?

Reincarnation of the Canoe Trip

November 14th, 2008 Greg 38 comments

I believe it is not too early to admit the demise of the annual Saco Canoe Trip. But while all good things must come to an end, they too are reborn in a new form (well at least in Buddhism).

Updated: It looks like there is sufficient interest in planning a weekend winter trip to Maine for some ice fishing/hanging out/anything else you can think of. Since that seems to be the cheapest and most popular option, I have taken the old poll down and replaced it with the new poll at right to see when works best for everyone. If you have any restrictions please vote so we can get as many people as possible to show up!

I looked in to some cabins yesterday and it looks like this would be very inexpensive for either a 3 day or 2 day weekend, whatever people want to do. Apparently if you go anywhere outside of a ski area in winter things are very cheap! Keith- I know you mentioned you could look in to places, as a resident Mainer for years now I say go for it! Also, if you know of a place that we can rent ice fishing gear from that would be awesome.

Ultimate Sheep Fighting Championship

November 12th, 2008 Greg 9 comments

This video is priceless- it is apparently the finals of a massive sheep fighting contest, and results in one of the sheeps getting KTFO’ed, whilst the other enjoys the glories of victory in the form of a massive wild party (flares and all). My buddy’s friend is fluent in Arabic and he said that the announcer continuously calls the winner “the greatest sheep in all of the world,” can you really disagree?

Consumer Report Request

October 9th, 2008 Greg 10 comments

Howdy y’all. I am looking into purchasing a new digital camera and to be completely honest, do not have the time/interest in extensively researching the best model for my needs. So I figured I’d post here in the hopes that one of you knows alot on the subject and can offer a quick and easy recommendation!

I just want it for general use (landscape, portraits, etc.), would like some zoom (nothing crazy, maybe x3) and short video capability. I am thinking in the $125-$200 range, any suggestions?

Thanks- Greg

Anyone Moving?

May 21st, 2008 Greg 13 comments

Howdy y’all! I am finally going to spread my wings and fly out of the nest that is my parents house, and make the move into Boston (area). I did a little perusing of Craigslist’s “roommmates wanted” listings last night, but figured it’d be worth seeing if someone I know is interested in living together, rather than jump in with a strange stranger.

So is anybody thinking of/interested in moving any time soon? I am looking to move in August/September. Due to living with my parents now and girlfriend before that I am pretty clean; and due to how much I work I won’t be making noise much. What I am trying to say is … I would make a good roommate!

Let me know if you are interested!

Memoirs of the Dark Continent

May 8th, 2008 Greg 17 comments

Well a couple of years ago I created an account on Youtube because I needed to verify that I was over 18 in order to look at tits and fights. I just discovered that with that membership, I can also post videos for the world to see. This is the very basis of Youtube, however it seems really new and cutting edge to me.

Anyways I took this wonderful opportunity to upload a video of myself riding an ostrich from the other week. Check this shiz out, and judge my ostrich riding ability plz-

To further illustrate that they let you do crazy shit and have no regard for your safety in Africa, I provide more evidence-

Greg and Cheetah

There was literally no protection or safety precautions involved here, I was in a large open area with several cheetahs. Beautiful animals though, they seemed so gentle and even played with me!

UPDATE: On a safer note check this out, yes they have penguins in South Africa!

Meat Smuggling: A Follow Up

April 15th, 2008 Greg 29 comments

For all of you wondering how my little meat smuggling escapades went; let me say it was a little more uncomfortable than expected. Even in our great Commonwealth, which has recgonized same sex marriages, meat smuggling is still illegal and this ban is well enforced.

I tried to bring back several types of ‘biltong’ (South Africa’s insanely popular and wide-spread equivalent of jerky), including beef, kudu (extremely large antelope with an impressive rack), and two types of ostrich. While I successfuly brought in the ostrich, beef and kudu were taken due to threats of mad cow disease, even after I tried to explain to the customs agent that kudu was an antelope, not a bovine species. Apparently his commanding of the English language was not sufficient enough to understand the nuances between “antelope” and “cattle” because he thought the two were one in the same … oh well … All in all it took about a half hour to get through customs, basically I was waiting for them to Google search the legality of bringing this stuff in. They never got an actual answer, they “compromised” by letting me take in two of the four … what a great job our national security does …

So if anyone wants any Ostrich Biltong, I’ve got plenty!

Hockey Rumbles (Part Deux): Beatdown in Boston

April 3rd, 2008 Greg 3 comments

In keeping with the hockey brawl post a couple of weeks ago, I share a new piece of gold I ran across: A classic 1970 rumble at the Garden between the Bruins and their archrivals to the north- the Canadiens:

This very well may beat the Canada/Russia epic from the World Junior Championships in 1987 as craziest rumble ever. Not only was the fighting just plain more brutal back then, fans are actually involved, so many that they actually fill the camera shot. It also features Derek Sanderson (who is basically a living legend, google that shit) going after Canadiens IN their own bench, and then fighting with cops as they try to kick him out.

LEGENDARY!!!
