I don’t see a problem with this approach. What do you think?

Dell Keyloggers

May 26th, 2006 Josh No comments

http://ivlad.unixgods.net/lj/keylog/klog.htmWhy would Dell insert a hardware keylogger between their laptop’s keyboard and the laptop’s ethernet connection? This dude called the police when he found it in his computer, who then told him to call the Department of Homeland Security. Why would that be put there?

Monsanto Pushes Hormones on School Kids in Their Milk (Part 1)

Monsanto Pushes Hormones on School Kids in Their Milk (Part 1)

Very disturbing read.  This company Monsanto is injecting cows with this hormone that causing carcingoens to build up in cows milk.  These carcinogens are not destroyed by pastuerization.  What’s worse, the dead cows that have been injected with this hormone are “recycled” and fed into live cows (normally herbivores…) thus increasing the percentage of carcingoens in the live cow.  Overtime they will become way more concentrated.  Read the article, it was an eye opener for me.

On a related note, genetic engineering is ridiculous.  I hadn’t thought about some of these issues before.  Like when they add flounder genes to to tomatoes so they don’t feeze.  Or how they add chicken  genes to some potatoes causing them not to bruise.  As fascinating as that stuff really is, what does that mean if you are a vegitarian?  If you are a true veggie, does that mean that in addition to not ingesting meat, you can’t ingest anything with meat genes in it?  Where do you draw the line?

Living on Earth

Living on Earth is one of the best NPR shows out there (along with Marketplace of course, Brian), which is produced no more than four hundred yards from my apartment. A relatively balanced environmental show that’s on for an hour once a week, it covers a whole range of global and national issues. The best part of it all is that they have their entire show for download in MP3 format, making it a great listen at the office when you get tired of Music. Check it out.

Hola amigos

jim anchower

“Hola amigos. What’s shakin’? I know it’s been a long time since I rapped at ya.” Nothing warms my heart on a cold cubicle day like that line. This is up for debate, but Jim Anchower has got to be one the best reads on the internet. Broken down Fiesta, boozed out friends, getting fired from Fast Food Jobs: Jim Anchower takes it all in stride. Check him out sometime, maybe then The Onion will give him a weekly spot. On a side note, it was funny to see the writing team from The Onion on the movie The Aristocrats, they were as funny and as dirty as any of the comedians. I can only imagine what they’d write if they were allowed to.

What the?!

Ok, I just saw this on Fark. Is this for real? Anyone know if UPI is a credible source? No one else is reporting this…
If true, it is pretty scary.

Did you know…

That the US was voted off the United Nations Human Rights Commission?  The possible reasons ranged from the US’s Middle Eastern policies, opposition to a treaty to abolish land-mines, opposition to an International Criminal Court, and opposition to making AIDS drugs available to everyone.  What’s worse, this happened in March 2001 (!!), before 9/11 and our (over)reaction.  Another odd fact is that China and Cuba are on the commision, which doesn’t give the commission much credibility, imo.  Any thoughts?

PS3 Interface (From E3)

YouTube video. I must say it looks pretty cool on the inside and the outside. Dual HDMI outs are a huge plus for me, since I’m planning on purchasing a widescreen in the near future. The video shows the interface they made which lets you choose from users, photos, games, music, movies… impressive.

Hot Social Studies Lesson

May 11th, 2006 rob 2 comments

So, why the hell did I never have a teacher like this in high school. It’s probably not safe for work to click that link, skimpy bikinies and all, no nudity though. But alas she’s in trouble for being on the bikini team.

Here’s a safe picture of her, but the real hotness is in the first link.

Gamer Randomness

May 11th, 2006 cheeko 6 comments

Only some of you will care, but I’ve been reading John Romero’s blog.

http://rome.ro/

At least lately he’s been commenting on some interesting things.  Happy Birthday to Wolf3D.  Man I loved playing that game back when it first came out.  Also he chimes in on the whole fiasco involving Oblivion.  I basically completely agree with his thoughts on the topic.  Its unfortunate and stupid that these developers are being held responsible for things people alter to their released products, and it is having an impact as far as stricter ratings.

On a somewhat related note, Jack Thompson has started harping in on the topic, and anything involving that evil man is scary.
