“Admirer of Great People”

March 29th, 2007 aaron 18 comments

While I have to give credit to JD for finding this, it had to be put up on McCrappy before it was forgotten. Apparently the Josh we know is not as unique as we’ve thought, he shares this world with an alter ego. Although both could be said to share an “admiration of great people” I’m not sure how many names would overlap on the two lists. We’re not even going to start on the comedy of the alter ego’s documentary list. If anyone ever passes though Alabama we’ve got to get a picture with this guy, or maybe we should invite him onto McCrappy as our group skeptic…

The reason I played video games as a kid…

March 29th, 2007 aaron 4 comments

It’s amazing how some of the smallest parts of a video game end up being the best part. Take blades of steel (this came up before in McCrappy comments): all me and my brother would ever try to do was get in fights on the ice. You’d then go into the special hockey boxing mode, where the losers body would get dragged off the ice. Great lesson for the kids. This is trumped though by rarest and by far funniest moment in a video game ever: when the ambulance takes the injured people off the field in the early Madden games. It was a pretty rare moment, and it was celebrated like Christmas by everyone watching. Now by the power of youtube, you too can relive the hilarity:

I for one welcome our hexagonal overlords

March 28th, 2007 JD 6 comments

So, there’s a giant hexagon rotating about Saturn’s north pole. It’s about 15,000 miles wide, is visible in the infrared range, and extends about 60 miles below the cloud tops.

Who is going in on some tinfoil stock with me?

(first post yay)

Bose suspension system

March 28th, 2007 cbanker 3 comments

Check out this sick car suspension system that Bose is developing. I wish I could replace the shocks in my truck with this setup, unfortunately it’s still in R&D and won’t be available aftermarket.

This video is not in English, but it is awesome and demonstrates all of the aspects of this system, with a few cool surprises at the end, definitely worth your 3 minutes.

Bose’s website on the system has a lot of technical info and such, there are a bunch of short videos in the bottom right.

Yngwie Malmsteen Rocks My World

March 28th, 2007 Josh 4 comments

Not sure if you’ve heard of Yngwie Malmsteen, the ridiculous uber-guitar player, but oh my christ I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile.  First video is the real thing, it is his “instructional” video, and the second video is a parody of it.  Its about three minutes of your time for both vids, and I literally almost shat myself while watching the parody.   I wish you could have seen me, I could barely breathe.

instructional video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkcgdi_Lp7Y

Let me know what you think.

We will probably attack Iran SOON

March 28th, 2007 Josh 16 comments

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20070327/62697703.html

It is short, here is the full text:

MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russian military intelligence services are reporting a flurry of activity by U.S. Armed Forces near Iran’s borders, a high-ranking security source said Tuesday.

“The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran,” the official said, adding that the Pentagon has probably not yet made a final decision as to when an attack will be launched.

He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran “that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost.”

He also said the U.S. Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said last week that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran’s military infrastructure in the near future.

A new U.S. carrier battle group has been dispatched to the Gulf.

The USS John C. Stennis, with a crew of 3,200 and around 80 fixed-wing aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and Superhornet fighter-bombers, eight support ships and four nuclear submarines are heading for the Gulf, where a similar group led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has been deployed since December 2006.

The U.S. is also sending Patriot anti-missile systems to the region.

Physics of a Gyroball

March 27th, 2007 cheeko No comments

So even though Matsuzaka doesn’t throw it, here is the physics of the gyro ball. Its not some mythical thing like some press people would have you believe, apparently a few pitchers in Japan do throw it, and its documented.

Basically imagine a baseball thrown like a football with a rotation around the axis running from the pitcher to the batter.

JoshuaWakefield.com

March 27th, 2007 Josh 1 comment

Ok, well since Aaron refused my offer of $500 for McCrappy (kidding), I developed my own site.  My longer and quirkier posts will no longer be posted here at McCrappy, but on my site instead, JoshuaWakefield.com. I will post a link to my site whenever something new of interest is posted. I intend to post smaller or less significant posts here (i.e “Check out this website” and the like), as I’d like to accumulate the larger ones on my site. I just want my original stuff all in one place.  Basically if it is weird or far out or abstract it’ll go on my site, and everyday stuff will be posted here.  Over the next couple years I should get quite a collection because I write pretty often.  I am actually going to find five or ten posts that are here on McCrappy and transfer them over.  I won’t link to previous McCrappy posts here (just my new ones), but just be warned if you’ve been on McCrappy for awhile – you may see some familiar stuff.  But all the new content is going to be there.

Anyway, this post discusses the hard problem of consciousness:  How is consciousness generated?  I don’t give an answer because I’m not GOD, but there is a small discussion up there.  And I’d appreciate it if comments related to posts on my site go on my site.  I mean do whatever you want, but my hope in all of this is to have all my original stuff AND related comments in one spot.  This is not a battle with McCrappy, so don’t worry, I will still post here frequently.  And FYI, my site is not Internet Explorer friendly (the formatting is all messed up) and I have no idea why, but I’m not going to spend any time on that.  Try downloading Firefox instead of supporting IE and everything will work just fine.  Thank you and let me know if you like my site.  As time goes on, I want to put book reviews up, possibly have some streaming music, maybe a little chat window.  It should be pretty cool.

BSG

March 27th, 2007 cheeko 14 comments

Was tempted to post this yesterday, but figured I’d hold off till today.

Does anyone besides Josh, Corey and I watch Battlestar? The season finally was this past Sunday. This is by far and away the best TV show I’ve seen in a long time, possibly ever. I want to avoid spoilers, so if you’re a watcher and haven’t seen the finally don’t open this thread. If you have, I’m curious to hear what people’s thoughts are. Such a good episode.

Why feeding giant eels hotdogs is a BAD idea…

March 26th, 2007 Dacunha 7 comments

Well, here is the video. I have to admit, after about 30 seconds…it was fairly obvious to me that this was a very bad idea. LOL. Dumbasses. Also, apparently if you have a mishap with a giant eel, you best get your ass to Bangkok. Footage includes post-operation pics, and use demonstration via beer holding and PS2 playing. Music is ok, but the pop is a little disturbing. Watch it, and you’ll know what I mean.
