Software Suggestions

February 29th, 2008 Josh 121 comments

My work gave me a new laptop, which was a super awesome surprise for me.  I am in the processing of finding torrents for all the software I want.  So now I need a list of stuff to look for.  Here it is so far – please add any useful softwares titles you think would be a good addition.

My list:  Office, Adobe suite, Fruityloops, Acid, Nero, Cakewalk, Cubase, Band in a Box, ProTools, MATLab..

Anyone else have any suggestions?  I’d like a chemistry program too.   Science programs, creativity programs, media programs… let me know.

PS2 games

February 26th, 2008 Dacunha 8 comments

So recently I decided to buy some used PS2 games, since I only had 2…and I’ve owned the PS2 since it came out. I picked out a few and brought them home to try them out: “Dark Cloud” and “God of War”. I have to say that in all honesty GoW is one of the best games I had ever played. Until I beat it and went out and bought GoW2. Excellent. I haven’t even touched “Dark Cloud” yet, but if its any good, I’ll write something about it in the comment of this post later.

That being said, it makes me wonder how many other awesome games are out there for the PS2. Do you guys have any favorites you would like to share? After such a great experience with a video game I’d like to see what others are out there I may have missed…

If you haven’t played GoW and you own a PS2, do yourself a favor and go buy it used for 5-10 bucks. My bet is you’ll be out to buy GoW2 a few days later. Just watch out for the “Gauntlet” section….gaddamn that was hard. lol.

Bonnaroo Memorial Services

February 22nd, 2008 JD 68 comments

It appears Bonnaroo is no more. Sure, some festival in the same place with the same name will be taking place, but will be headlined by such acts as Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West and Death Cab for Cutie. I propose a moment of silence to remember my (our?) fallen friend, and this post for those who require grief counseling through the medium of snarky intar-blogging.

Stuff White People Like

If you like to discuss “white” topics like Apple computers, sushi, standing still at concerts, breakfast places, Prius’s, whole foods, and other assorted topics, then this is the site for you.  I’ve never read more accurate descriptions of white people.  If you look up “white people” in the dictionary, they send you here.  Seriously, they send you to this site.  Go look it up if you don’t believe me.  Told you so…

Phi Sig Kap Hoodies

February 22nd, 2008 Steve 2 comments

So it’s that time of the year when the undergrads are ordering zip-up hoodies. I figured I’d throw a post up here and see if anyone is interested. The design is going to use the Kinney Coat of Arms.

I also have a pic here of a t-shirt design incorporating it.

Kinney Coat of Arms T-Shirt

I don’t have pricing yet. The order is gonna be placed soon. So if you are interested email me: smillet15 at gmail dot com

Raise one up for Sam Adams

Sam Adams

Apparently this last summer was brutal on the hops harvest: bad weather in the Northwest, a fire at one of the largest hop warehouses, and high demand have made it impossible for small brewers to get their hands on the good stuff. If you were wondering (like I was) why a six pack went up to 8-9 dollars this winter, the shortage is apparently the biggest reason.

The good news: Sam Adams is selling a portion of their supply, to make sure the small breweries can stay in business. It’s really generous of them considering this isn’t exactly excess. Currently, it’s only available to registered brewers (I don’t know what a home-brewer would do with 88 pounds of the stuff). So next time you’re out it might be worth picking up something of theirs for the good deed.

BSG returns

February 5th, 2008 cheeko 19 comments

Its a little under 2 months, but figured I’d start the hype.

According to this blog the premiere of the 4th season of BSG is set for April 4, and the 3rd season DVDs will be out on March 25th.

I’m thinking viewing party at my place for the premiere.

My brother sent me this link. A bunch of improv artists “froze” in time for 5 minutes in grand central.

The idea is interesting, but the part I found really awesome are the pictures. Time lapses of people around them blurring, while the participants look clear and focused. REally great effect. I could digress into philosophical reflection on them, but I’ll save that for comments.
