Intermoney

March 31st, 2008 Josh 1 comment

I stumbled upon this page which lists ways you can get paid for writing on the internet.  I was curious if anybody here has any experience with freelance writing in general, and specifically freelance for the internet?  Also, is anybody making any money using the internet?  Seems like many people make money on the internet (not using ebay and selling their old stuff either).  Curious if anyone here has any thoughts about that.  There’s enough knowledge in this group where we could certainly write some useful articles… now, how do we get paid?

Good times to all that made it out to Karoake last night, too bad none of us actually got to sing! Anyways I don’t think I’ve ever randomly posted a video but this is the best I have seen on break.com in ages, definitely worth a view-

(for some reason this embedded video was messing with the site, here’s the link)

Enjoy! (Not safe for work!)

Earth Hour – This Saturday 8pm

March 28th, 2008 corey 18 comments

In keeping with the theme of climate change I wanted to let everyone know that this Saturday at 8pm is Earth Hour. Many folks still don’t recognize the immediate impact that climate change is having on our planet. I’m sure many of you will be surprised to hear that if you don’t turn off your lights for an hour this Saturday the planet is very likely to stop spinning, resulting in a polar shift that will blow up our blue marble into a fiery ball of flaming hell at 9pm. So don’t forget to turn off the lights or DIE this Saturday from 8 to 9pm.

Here is a video for those McCrappy viewers who have a hard time reading. I think it’s narrated by Ari from Entourage.

Yea Reason!

What can giant mutant space hamsters tell you about global warming? Watch and learn. This is a great video focusing on what we can really affect in climate change, and what our practical choices really are. Reason to the rescue.

The little man rocks it out.  Wait to you get to the “jukebox hero” lyrics at least once to see what he does.

To Tango

With job offers on the horizon, my current boss has decided to do some car shopping for me. That was his suggestion. Pretty cool…although getting hit in one will probably kill you.

The Joys of Flying

March 23rd, 2008 jblees 8 comments

Most of the Providence crew (except for Jamie)  are making a victorious return to Puerto Rico in a week. I went on to the Logan Airport website for some information, and found the following in the “Security” section. I know that the quasi-ban on liquids is nothing new, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the following excerpt:

To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint):

Since when is KY considered a prescription or any sort of medication? I just love how it is the first item listed, and I would love to watch somebody present their case as to why the airline should make an exception and allow them to carry on more than 3 ounces.

“Can I have a dol… AHHHH!”

Remote-controlled live homeless water cannnoning just got a little bit closer to reality. Check out the BumBot2000. This thing has live camera feeds, a water cannon, and speakers so the operator can bark 1984-esque commands to the street walkers of the night.

The pyschology of bias

March 23rd, 2008 cheeko No comments

Interesting article ran over on slashdot today. In short it talks about how as a society with the new means of public commentary, we are quick to label things as bias and how its altered our ability to view objective commentary. I don’t think its any coincidence that everyone seems to think so much media is biased and out to get them.

I’ve personally seen people get ripped for the Mac stuff, and I’ve seen plenty of more main stream sites suffer the same thing.

The example he mentioned that I liked was that if half the world thinks something is black and the other half thinks its white. And you split the objective comments exactly 50-50 for either side, both sides will feel slighted because obviously their side should have more comments. Seems simple enough.

Tied Up Without a Rope

March 23rd, 2008 Josh 5 comments

I find ideas like this fascinating.  That you can use the form of the human body along with a small tree to literally lock a person down.  The legs do have to be in an unexpected position, so I’m not sure how you could convince anybody to do this in a real life situation.  But it would be interesting to see if you really do lock yourself down.   Check out the video:

Anybody else know of anything similar to that?

CNN Headline: Pope calls for world peace!

March 23rd, 2008 Dacunha 3 comments

Well, I guess the world can relax now, since all the fighting will stop.

Talk about some cajones. This guy rules the smallest country in the world, wears the most ridiculous hats, and tells the rest of the world: “Yo, stop that!”. (But please disregard the organization I am from and all the wars they have been in. Oh, and ignore all the persecution and lies as well)
