Dagnabit!

June 26th, 2009 Dacunha 11 comments

I decided to buy a couple games recently only to find my video card is not quite up to par. So, I hunkered down and went through a bazillion reviews/specs/models and came up with an XFX Radeon HD4870. I have always had good experiences with ATi stuff….any hardcore nVidia people out there? The new 250-260 looks pretty too. I’m also borderline on my PSU, but I’ll see what happens…these cards are pulling over 200W under loads. Any McCrappiacs out there done hardware upgrades recently with any input?
UPDATE:Old Video Card

As you can see, I’ve upgraded…a bit.

Goodbye cloves, I hardly smoked ye

June 26th, 2009 JD 8 comments

I heard a rumor that smoking tobacco was bad for you. Seriously? This is the first I’ve heard of it! Well, Obama has yet again granted sweeping new federal powers to make all of our lives better, and be sure that we hear about this so-called ‘tobaccy’ and its many dangers.

The good:
Requires complete ingredient list to be put on packaging and submitted to FDA, so they can check whether there is a harmful additive or not. However, I can see this eventually turning into “tobacco’s bad, m’kay” and that being banned as an ingredient as well.

The stupid:
Can no longer use the words ‘mild’ or ‘light’. Seriously, have these idiots ever tasted the difference between a Marlboro Red and a Parliament Light? Those terms aren’t just smoke and mirrors, and I highly doubt ANYONE left in this society thinks any cigarettes are safe to smoke.

Sterner warnings on packs: As if this warnings about lung cancer and empysema and birth defects weren’t stern enough. I’m too stupid to read, I need them pic-chars to shows me hows them ciggyrettes are harmyful.

No Flavors: Goodbye cloves.

Federal powers: Now replacing your state laws, one at a time! Thanks gov!

So, whatever happened to an expectation of personal responsibility?

Quote I heard the other day…
A liberal is someone who measures the success of a government by the number of people it helps. A conservative is someone who measures the success of a government by the number of people it doesn’t help, because it doesn’t need to.

Interesting/Funny/Appropriate names

June 23rd, 2009 Dacunha 8 comments

Well, I was just perusing some headlines and saw that Ed McMahon died. As I read, I noticed his publicists name: Howard Bragman, and I thought, “Well, isn’t that appropriate for a publicist”.

I’ve seen this type of thing many times and always chuckle, so I figured I’d make a post. Anyone else seen any funny/interesting/appropriate names recently?

Good Non-Music Programs to Listen to at Work

June 23rd, 2009 keith 6 comments

So I’ve listened to every single This American Life and Radiolab at this point and I was hoping other people have some suggestions for interesting radio programs to stream at work. Sometimes I just like listening to that stuff more than music while at work…

PS. for those that haven’t listened to the above mentioned programs…you should. they are available for free streaming online and they are really interesting.

Disc Golf in Tiger Woods 10 for Wii

June 16th, 2009 albrecht 4 comments

Not sure if this is old news to everyone or not, but I know a good number of you have a Wii at home.  The newest Tiger Woods that came out last week includes an option to play disc golf on all the courses.  It uses the new Wii Motion Plus attachment too, so controls are pretty accurate.

New themes

June 9th, 2009 aaron 34 comments

Things have been a little slow here at McCrappy lately, so I took the downtime to update the site’s wordpress installation. In the same vein, our theme was looking a little bland and outdated, so I started playing around with some new themes. I’m not a huge fan of the one I currently have up, so if anyone has a favorite, point me at it. Maybe we’ll have to have a vote if there’s a couple of popular options.

You can check out possibilities here: WP Themes.
